Jo-el
Curtis was born and raised in one of America’s first rock and
roll cities: Baltimore, Maryland. At a very early age he
played the trumpet in various school bands. He was one of the
first entertainers to sing and perform the early rock and pop
songs from the ’50’s and ’60’s in that city. After perfecting
his style as an exciting live entertainer, he began touring
across the country as a lead singer with various bands until
he found the bright lights of Las Vegas. He became quite
famous on the club circuit there, but after five years set out
for an even bigger city: Los Angeles.
His dynamic range and unique
style as a vocalist caught the ears of a talent scout and he
made his national television debut on the Merv Griffin Show.
After tiring of the big city, he moved back to the suburbs of
his hometown and began playing all the big clubs in Baltimore.
As a singer and entertainer, he is extremely successful
because he always gives his audiences everything he’s got plus
a little bit more.
It was suggested to Jo-el to
write a few country songs, and after submitting the new crop
of songs, Jo-el was in the studio co-producing his first
country album. “The Writin’s On The Wall” hit the
Top 20 and “Precious Oil” landed in the Top 50. Both
songs dealt with the Persian Gulf crisis and summed up the
feelings of most Americans.
When the Persian Gulf Crisis
sprung up for the second time, “The Writin’s On The
Wall” charted once again with its re-release; and a
follow-up entitled “Ready To Roll.” Being a
Harley-Davidson enthusiast, Jo-el penned a great
Harley-Davidson country rocker with commercial potential. Well
received with radio was his first ballad, “Desperate For
Love,” as well as a pro-life tune, “The Ladies
Choice” and “Color Me Country,” a country
rocker.
Jo-el has served on several
praise and worship bands such as the T.N.L Praise Band, NAC
Praise Team and LIGHT. T.N.L. just recorded their first 11
song CD in Nashville with Jars of Clay’s, Mitch Dane which
includes… Breathe, I Cant Wait, O Happy Day, Hear Our
Praises and other current favorites.
He currently is a part of
several Motorcycle Clubs and Ministries and performs with the
NAC Praise Team. Jo-el can also be found at many of the
Maryland area Coffeehouses such as The Brooklyn Bridge, The
Fishlocker Cafe’, The Cornerstone Cafe’ and many others
singing his unique blend of Country and Contemporary Christian
tunes.
