Joel
Brown is distinguished as a shining star and an
incredible saxophonist that enlightens the world
with the melodious sounds of Gospel Jazz. Joel’s
music touches the lives of others, while causing
them to feel peace, tranquility and joy. The
expression of jazz in Joel’s music “is so
powerful that you can feel it through your soul.”
Joel has been
playing the saxophone for over 22 years. Music has
been his passion since he began playing as a child,
and his musical passion has continued to grow even
as he has pursued and achieved great academic
accomplishments. He achieved a Bachelors of Arts in
Music from Florida A&M University. There, he was
a student senator, a BIONR Scholar, a dean’s
scholar, a member of the jazz lab band, a member of
the symphonic band, part of the group the MACK PACK
and a saxophonist at University Ministries C.O.G.I.C.
After graduating
from FAMU with a B.A. degree in Music, Joel’s
passion for music continued to blaze as he expanded
his academic interest and pursued a Master’s in
Historical and Theological Studies from Oral Roberts
University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. While distinguishing
himself in Theological Studies as a Graduate
Teaching Assistant, Joel continued to follow his
passion for music as he became a member of the
symphonic band, a member of various musical groups
and a saxophonist for Higher Dimensions Church.
As a musically
talented academician, Joel continued his studies by
pursuing a Juris Doctorate from the Walter F. George
School of Law, where he was a member of the Moot
Court Board, Vice-President of the Student Bar
Association, a member of the Black Law Students
Association and the Head Bar/Bri Representative.
While matriculating through law school as a highly
involved, aspiring attorney, Joel continued to brand
himself as a smooth jazz saxophonist as he began and
developed a jazz band, Joeltrane.
Even after
becoming a Public Defender for the Office of the
Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Tampa, Florida, where
he distinguished himself by winning the Best
Advocate Award at the Public Defender’s College
and by progressing through the intake, misdemeanor,
drug court and felony departments, making a
successful record in jury trials, Joel’s sax
remained Joel’s passion. After starting his own
law practice, Joseph W. Brown, II, Attorney and
Counselor at Law, P.A. ( www.josephwbrownii.com),
Joel would practice law by day and record music by
night as he laid the melodic tracks for his first
solo sax CD project, “Daddy Loves His Baby.”
Joel takes much
pride in his music and his musical pride compliments
his pride in his family, work and community. He has
a loving wife, Tiffanie, and is the proud father of
their two sons, Jay and Joshua. Joel also volunteers
as a mentor at Booker T. Washington Elementary
School, is a member of the School Advisory Council
at Booker T. Washington Elementary School, a member
of the 100 Black Men of Tampa Bay, Inc., a member of
the NAACP, a member of the Hillsborough County Bar
Association, and a member of the George Edgecomb Bar
Association.
The dynamic and
inspiring Joel Brown has played in venues all over
the country and knows that his future is ripe with
more opportunities as he continues to bless others
with his gift of music.
