BOYD RAPER – CROSSVILLE, TN (931) 248-2403

The beautiful Cumberland Mountains that the Lord created in Eastern Middle Tennessee at Crossville, TN., U.S.A., is where I was born, grew up and still reside.

As a young boy I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. Now, as an adult I look back over the years and realize that not only did my Dad, a bi-vocational pastor for much of his life, and my Mother raise me in a Christian home but they laid the foundation for my love of Gospel music and singing Gospel songs. When I was just a child my Mother would sing the old church songs as she went about her daily chores as a mother and housewife. For many years Dad and Mother sang in church choirs, at revivals, funerals, homecomings, and community events. Dad taught singing schools in many communities and every time I could I would go with him. In those days there were not many places to go other than church, school or to visit a neighbor. There were many nights (before the days of T.V.’s, V.C.R.’s, and fast food) that neighbors in the community in which we lived would gather at someone’s home and the adults would visit and gather around the old upright pianos singing Gospel songs of old in four part harmony. As a child sitting and listening to the adults sing there’s no doubt they were influencing my life toward a love of Gospel singing.

My public singing career began in 1975, at thirty years of age, when I was asked to join and sing bass for the Oak Hill Boys Quartet that was forming in my home church in Crossville, TN. After that beginning I realized that singing was what the Lord had in store for me. After many years singing in church choirs, as a church soloist, as a member of and bass singer for various local weekend warrior Gospel groups I began singing and sharing as a soloist in January, 2003. It is more evident than ever before that my singing ministry has been and still is from the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

In recent years the Lord has allowed me to pen some Gospel songs including “Blackout At Calvary” recorded by Southern Joy Quartet of Crossville, TN. “Blackout At Calvary” along with another song that I wrote, entitled “If I Could Just Have Been There”, are included on my newest solo project entitled “My Journey”. Other fairly new songs that I have written including “When He Steps Out On The Cloud” and “A Glimpse Of Glory” were recently recorded by HisDeliverance. In addition I have had the honor of co-writing “Don’t Cry For Me” and “Follow Me” as recorded by HisDeliverance.

In 2003 I had the privilege of doing a vocal and musical arrangement of a poem that was written by oldest brother that died in 1958 at the age of seventeen. The poem was entitled “My Journey” and has been recorded on my latest recording project. This song title was used as the title cut for the recording project.

This is an ever expanding ministry and is supported by the prayers, encouragement of my family, friends, and by God’s grace.

May God bless you and yours!
Shared from the heart, Boyd Raper
